On March 30, 2017 the Brockport Police Department officially introduced their first K-9 officer (to be) to the media:
What's his name? The fifteen month old purebred German Shepherd, who was purchased from Shallow Creek Kennels in Pennsylvania, is currently nameless (albeit a temporary name from the kennels that will not be used). The Brockport Police Department would like the community to help name him. If you have a name idea visit the Brockport Police Department's Facebook page to share it.
When will he become an officer? The shepherd will begin the Rochester Police Department's K-9 academy on April 3, 2017 with his handler Brockport Police Officer Josh Sime. The academy is twelve weeks. After he graduates he will be introduced to the community.
What will he do on the force? He will be trained in narcotics and tracking. He will also be a public face and presence for the department who will visit schools and community events.
Who paid for the K-9? The K-9 was purchased with a $11,000 donation from Wegmans Food Markets and a donation from Milk Bone. Dr. Carolyn Orr, owner of the Animal Clinic of East Avenue in Brockport, will generously provide all of the K-9's care and food at no cost to the village of Brockport.
